How can you remove Search Engine listing

In this age of Search Engine Friendly websites, this article can raise a few eyebrows! But there are cases when we want to hide information which are of personal nature to public eyes.

One of my client searched for his name and  found a couple of sites where he added a few comments, opinions  years back. He intends to remove this information from Google search engine for reason not necessarily important to me!

Obvious questions which comes to anyone’s mind:

  • How can i stop Google to index anything i want?
  • How do i proceed, in order to remove an information from Google ?

Well, the answer lies in Google Web Master Tools!

To remove information from a certain site from Google , go to:

https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/removals

If you want to remove a site then, go to:

https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/siteoverview?hl=en

Also, one more way to stop search engines crawl your webpage is to add robot.txt. Basically Robot.txt is a file written and stored in the root directory of a website that restricts the search engine spiders from indexing certain pages of your website. This file does not allow certain spiders from viewing your private files. You can also prevent certain spider to look at any of the web pages through this file.

What’s FTP and how to use it? Is SFTP a better Choice?

I know many of us does know about FTP. But here I am going to sum up FTP in short for my readers who doesn’t know about it or new to Web. FTP,  “File Transfer Protocol” is a very important method as this method is used to transfer files from one computer to another across the Internet.

Some other protocols are

  • HTTP: Hypertext Transfer Protocol. It is used to display web pages and related files, but it is not used to transfer them.
  • SMTP refers to as Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It is used to transfer email via the Internet, but not files.

There are other ways to transfer files from one computer to another through the internet but FTP is the most commonly as well as the simplest method for transferring electronic files as it uses the TCP/IP protocols of the internet to complete the transmission. In actual terms the functions of FTP are corresponding to HTTP functions as the web pages that are uploaded to the Internet to be displayed using HTTP are generally uploaded through an FTP process. A very keen function is performed by the help of FTP that’s why it becomes mandatory for Internet business to go for FTP web hosting.

One’s business requires FTP web hosting or not it depends upon whether he/she will transfer the files through the Internet or not. Following are some of the importance of FTP web hosting.

  • FTP web hosting is important for the user having Internet business that involves the sharing of files.
  • It is useful for the user who provides its customers the large documents or graphic files.
  • If one receives large documents or graphic files from other sources, FTP web hosting proves to be very useful.

One can also use email to transfer large files back and forth between two computers; however, if one used email for very long, he/she should be aware of the limitations of some email accounts and email service providers. The other side of using email is that, email servers have a limit on the size of file that can be received via email. So FTP web hosting is a perfect alternative of email.

By the help of FTP web hosting capabilities, one can easily develop the directories of files that are stored on his/her web host’s servers allowing for easy access to the files through the Internet. Through FTP web hosting, others can also upload files to the user using FTP technology. The user never wants anyone to access to his/her files, so he/she should be aware while reviewing, evaluating and choosing a FTP web-hosting provider.

One great advantage of using FTP web hosting is that it provides the essential security. If one’s web site is having FTP web hosting, FTP download and upload capabilities, then he/she is able to organize files on his/her FTP site and determine which files will be publicly accessible and which one will remain locked. In addition to that, user names and passwords can be set to limit access to files on one’s FTP website that one don’t want to be publicly accessible. One should note that for public FTP websites, it is standard for the user id to be “anonymous” and for the password to be the email address of the individual attempting to access and download from, or upload to, the FTP website. Downloading files through FTP access is more efficient way as well as more secured if a software application called FTP Client is used. The main reason behind using FTP Client is that it provides best security as well as other important features like resume capabilities which are rather crucial if an interruption in the internet connection occurs during a download.

There are several web hosting companies offering FTP web hosting with the capability of transferring files from one’s computer to his/her web server as a standard feature, but sometimes user need to check for these capabilities to be enabled for use. There are several web hosts who charge extra for FTP web hosting with public access capabilities. While selecting a web host for one’s website, it is must to see in advance the need for FTP web hosting. It is always considered a good idea to choose a web host that provides FTP web hosting with both uploading and public access capabilities and that too without any extra fees.

There is another protocol called as- SSH File Transfer Protocol or SFTP is a network protocol that provides file transfer and manipulation functionality over any reliable data stream. It is typically used with the SSH-2 protocol (TCP port 22) to provide secure file transfer. SFTP can immensely help you in safeguarding your website and other files from Gumblar attacks where FTP credentials are stolen to hack your site, and tampering with web traffic.

Many Webhosts including Our Web Hosting Company- Datazion has discontinued standard FTP access to our customers. We rather insist them to use Secure FTP.

Cheers!

Content Management System- Types & Evolution

The genesis:
Content management systems were initially developed internally at organizations which were doing a lot of content publishing. In 1995, CNET spun out its internal development offerings into a separate company called Vignette. The company started offering the software as a web-based content management system, allowing sites to create templates of the presentation of their content on the web. In 1998 , Pencom Web Works, a consulting company, introduced the Metaphoria Data Transformation Server, allowing Java developers to write applications that would be tied with content and target the content output to different channels. The product failed but the concepts that were introduced by it made their way into most modern systems. The term Content Management System (CMS) was first synonymous with a UK company called Site kit, who exhibited their ‘instant web publishing’ (latterly CMS) at Cebit in Germany. The term was originally intended for web site publishing systems and web site management systems, however the term is now used to refer to a vast range of technologies and techniques, including portal systems, wiki systems and web based groupware.

There are several recognized types of content management systems:

  • Web content management systems assist in automating various aspects of web publishing, such as wikis.
  • Transactional content management systems (T-CMS) assist in managing e-commerce transactions.
  • Integrated content management systems (I-CMS) assist in managing enterprise documents and content.
  • Publications management systems (P-CMS) assist in managing the publications (manuals, books, help, guidelines, references) content life cycle.
  • Learning management systems (L-CMS) assist in managing the web-based learning content life cycle. See also managed learning environment.
  • Document imaging systems are also generally considered under the family of general content management.
  • Enterprise content management systems (E-CMS) vary in their functionality. Some support both the web and publications content life cycle, while others support the web content life cycle and either transactional content or customer relationship management content. The definition of AIIM for ECM includes methods and tools that “capture, manage, store, preserve and deliver” content across an enterprise. “Manage” contains components like document management, collaboration, business process management, records management, email management, workflow and web content management. The ECM concept is not restricted to web based technologies but includes client/server and hosted/ On-demand solutions.

Shooting Flowers with DSLR & “the dew effect”

photo The first thing you need to keep in mind is that photography is an art. Like a professional artist, you need to know your profession. Professional photographers get their reputation today through continuous learning and experimentation. In this post we will see how we can effectively shoot  images for shooting flowers. If you’re using a DSLR for shooting roses or any type of flora and fauna, it is important to remember the color rule – that red is the most powerful color in photography. Even so subtle, the color red if placed in any photograph will tell your eyes to move towards it. Thus, red attracts the human eye.

Experimenting with dew drops can create very pleasant effects to your photos. Have you ever seen those photos where a plant leaf has a single dew drop hanging by its tail, waiting to fall to the ground? This very dramatic shot can be achieved in many ways but the formula for creating the dew can be made at home. There are two ways to recreate the image that your flowers are “fresh from the rain.” Simply put dewdrops can be sprayed onto flowers with water to create that artificial effect.

For a more “solid” dew you can hop over to your local drugstore and purchase a bottle of glycerine  which in turn you have to mix with a little water. A 50-50 solution of glycerine and water and poured into a small spray can can create a more consistent dew effect for your flowers. Studio shots are great but don’t you think something out natural should be taken out in the wild? The best way to photograph flowers out in its natural habitat would be to do so early in the morning or sometime in the afternoon but never with the noon sun because your subject will appear saturated. Besides, the reward for waking up early is it allows you to photograph flowers fresh from the evening dew.

If you want warmer and more vibrant photos, you can wait till the afternoon to shoot. You’ll be surprised to see different results of shooting the same subject at different angles during different parts of the day.

Happy Shooting :-)

Nikon N70, N80 or be it N90?

nikon_d80

Nikon D80 digital SLR camera is NOT exactly what Nikon fans can be happy about as its very similar to D70 except a few improvements. The D90 have a 12.3 megapixel sensor, a 3″, live view LCD with face detection, a maximum ISO of 6400 and a “powerful speaker” for video playback.

The D80 offers a new “kit” lens, the 18-135mm f/4-5.6G AF-S ED DX, and a new vertical grip, the MB-D80. The kit lens is, by definition, fairly low-end, made to keep the price of the camera affordable to the photography newbie. The zoom has a considerably slower shutter speed than the D70 – 1/4000 compared to the previous 1/8000.  The D80’s viewfinder is larger and brighter than the D70’s, and the sensor has around 30% more resolution.

The sensor in the D80 is an ICX493AQA CCD made by Sony. The same sensor is used in the Sony Alpha 100 and Pentax K10D. 10.2 megapixels translates as 3872 x 2592 pixel images, enough to produce straight-from-camera prints up to about 11×16″ without resizing. The base ISO of the CCD is 100, with third-stop increments up through ISO 1600. You can also boost ISO one more stop, up to an effective ISO 3200.

Noise in the D80 sensor stems mainly from three design elements: the APS frame size, the smaller overall size of the photosites as compared to the 6mp sensors, and the lack of in-sensor NR electronics. That said, Nikon has integrated a number of things into the D80 to address the potential for increased noise over the previous consumer cameras. For example, once again data is kept in 12-bit space right up until the final compression to an 8-bit JPEG. Second, the internal digitization engine has a noise reduction component in it. All in all, low light images are easily comparable quality to the D70. This is perhaps primarily due to the larger CCD sensor.

The camera body is technically slightly smaller in all dimensions compared to those of the D70s, but current owners will find the design very similar. Most of the buttons are the same and in the same places, and there are dedicated buttons for many commonly used functions. For example, a cluster of buttons next to the shutter let you change metering mode, exposure compensation, drive mode, and AF mode. Meanwhile, the buttons to the left of the 2.5-inch, 230,000-pixel LCD screen let you change white balance, ISO, and image size and quality settings without diving into menus. About the only function without its own dedicated control is AF zone selection, though the camera’s programmable function button can be programmed to cover that if you so choose. The default for this button is to display the current ISO setting.

Three dials adorn the camera body. The mode dial lets you choose between program, aperture- or shutter-priority, full manual, full auto, or any of six preset exposure scene modes. The other two dials, located on the front and back of the grip, let you change aperture and shutter speed. Together, they make full manual shooting quick and easy, with a menu system that is easy to use. At $1000, N80 slightly pricier than comparable Canon or Petax models.  But if you have budget higher than $1000 then going for a Nikon N90 will be an investment which you will cherish for a long time.

5 things to do before hiring a Web Designer

In today’s competitive Internet economy, any company must focus on having dynamic Web presence.  A well-designed website will attract customers, promote products, and provide a way for customers to communicate with your company. Website design is an extremely critical business component as it will not only help you attract more clients and communicate with customers, but it will also provide a professional image to the worldwide audience. On the other hand, a poorly designed site may be difficult for customers to navigate, may not function the way you need it to, and may provide a poor image of your company.

It is important to educate yourself about how a good website looks and functions – even though you are not designing it yourself. With the variety of choices in companies and freelance designers, how do you choose? Consider the following factors:

Design Portfolio – The vendor should have a design portfolio that represents your aesthetic tastes. Some designers rely on Web 2.0 format, which is similar in appearance to a blog. Other designers have certain “styles” such as techie, corporate, artsy, mom-and-pop, etc. Make sure that you like the work in a designer’s portfolio and it matches your needs before agreeing to work with them.

Price – There can be a huge difference in the price of website design and development. Factors like experience, technological abilities and client base are considerations. Also, will you do any of the work yourself? Always put out a Request for Proposal (RFP) in order to analyze the options that are available to you.

References – Whenever you hire a vendor, you must check references! Make sure that the Web design company actually has live Websites in their portfolio. When you call references, ask questions like: Did their Website design vendor deliver the site as expected? What are the company’s strengths and weaknesses? Would you use them again? How was the follow-up after the launch of the site and were errors quickly corrected? Was their company easy to work with? If you are overwhelmed by the choices and checking references, click here for help!

Technology – Web design firms have different technological abilities and specialties. Create a list of all of the things you’d like to have on your site (e-commerce, login, blog, RSS feeds) and address their abilities and any additional pricing for these features.

Customer Relations – It’s important that you’re comfortable communicating with your designers and that they are responsive. If you choose to work with a team that is not local, the team should share files and progress updates efficiently and quickly. If you prefer a local company, make sure that they understand that they will need to make site visits to your office or meet with you at their office. Be ready to address problems quickly and professionally to ensure that your project is successful.

Website Planning …why and how?

It is important to take the time to plan exactly what is needed in a website such as about web designing, content, graphics and programming . Thoroughly considering the audience or target market, as well as defining the purpose and deciding what content will be developed are extremely important. Site designing isn’t something easy it requires great abilities. Creating a good and attractive website isn’t a matter of joke. This includes technical matters, website design, content keyword and all the other aspects that may bring the website higher rank in the search list and can attract huge numbers of online visitors. There are many things that matter and are crucial to make the website attractive, the color palette, choosing a lay out and text format for example. The creativeness of a designer would be apparent and will appear. Creating a website is also an art. It calls for immense technical talents In order to be a good successful pro web designer. The web designers are educated in HTML code, CSS code, Java and so much more.

A web designer has to spend a lot of time planning over the easiest way to make the website more attractive to the folks. For instance if we are going to a fast food eatery and we order something that looked good and when it is served with a little decoration and toppings, it will attract more than the one without decoration. If the created website is being exploited to sell a product, the web designer will have to know the way to market it? Which nations or cities? Advertising on TV is also very helpful. Search engine optimization or SEO is also a technique to get the websites placed in the search index, things need to be planned and carried out to get the website out in the public eye. The Google and the Yahoo are the famous of all if you need to look for the absolute best you want.

So lets start Planning  Website:

Determine the Purpose:

It is essential to define the purpose of the website as one of the first steps in the planning process. A purpose statement should show focus based on what the website will accomplish, what will be web designing means how it will look to the user and what the users will get from it. A clearly defined purpose will help the rest of the planning process as the audience is identified and the content of the site is developed. Setting short and long term goals for the website will help make the purpose clear and plan for the future when expansion, modification, and improvement will take place. Also, goal-setting practices and measurable objectives should be identified to track the progress of the site and determine success.

Focus on the Audience:

Defining the audience is a key step in the website planning process. The audience is the group of people who are expected to visit your website – the market being targeted. These people will be viewing the website for a specific reason and it is important to know exactly what they are looking for when they visit the site. A clearly defined purpose or goal of the site as well as an understanding of what visitors want to do or feel when they come to your site will help to identify the target audience. Upon considering who is most likely to need or use the content, a list of characteristics common to the users such as:

  • Audience Characteristics
  • Information Preferences
  • Computer Specifications
  • Web Experience

Taking into account the characteristics of the audience will allow an effective website to be created that will deliver the desired content to the target audience. If the web designing of your site is good then it will give the good look and feel to the user and it will generate the traffic to your site.

Pay attention to Content:

Content evaluation and organization requires that the purpose of the website be clearly defined. Collecting a list of the necessary content then organizing it according to the audience’s needs is a key step in website planning. In the process of gathering the content being offered, any items that do not support the defined purpose or accomplish target audience objectives should be removed. It is a good idea to test the content and purpose on a focus group and compare the offerings to the audience needs. The next step is to organize the basic information structure by categorizing the content and organizing it according to user needs. Each category should be named with a concise and descriptive title that will become a link on the website. Planning for the site’s content ensures that the wants or needs of the target audience and the purpose of the site will be fulfilled.

Find out the Compatibility and restrictions:

Because of the market share of modern browsers (depending on your target market), the compatibility of your website with the viewers is restricted. For instance, a website that is designed for the majority of web surfers will be limited to the use of valid XHTML 1.0 Strict or older, Cascading Style Sheets Level 1, and 1024×768 display resolution. This is because Internet Explorer is not fully W3C standards compliant with the modularity of XHTML 1.1 and the majority of CSS beyond 1. A target market of more alternative browser (e.g. Firefox and Opera) users allow for more W3C compliance and thus a greater range of options for a web designer. Another restriction on website designing is the use of different Image file formats. The majority of users can support GIF, JPEG, and PNG (with restrictions). Again Internet Explorer is the major restriction here, not fully supporting PNG’s advanced transparency features, resulting in the GIF format still being the most widely used graphic file format for transparent images. Many website incompatibilities go unnoticed by the designer and unreported by the users. The only way to be certain a website will work on a particular platform is to test it on that platform.

Document and Plan the old way:

Documentation is used to visually plan the site while taking into account the purpose, audience and content, to web designing the site structure, content and interactions that are most suitable for the website. Documentation may be considered a prototype for the website – a model which allows the website layout to be reviewed, resulting in suggested changes, improvements and/or enhancements. This review process increases the likelihood of success of the website. First, the content is categorized and the information structure is formulated. The information structure is used to develop a document or visual diagram called a site map. This creates a visual of how the web pages will be interconnected, which helps in deciding what content will be placed on what pages.
